Making Space to Create

After last year’s photo session season ended, I hosted both Thanksgiving and a weekend crafting retreat. By the time Christmas rolled around, I was surviving on fumes. It’s no wonder I ushered in the new year sick! Reflecting on the past season, I took a look at everything that worked and zeroed in on things that needed to change. I realized I had left very little room for anything other than necessary tasks. Crafting had taken a back seat in the name of productivity and it had depleted me.

I committed to completely reorganizing my priorities and declared January as the kickoff for my “Radical Reorg.” I firmly believe that creativity thrives when given the space to flourish, both physically and mentally. My crafting supplies and work boundaries were in disarray, but that was about to change.

I sketched out some ideas for a craft closet with inspiration from IKEA Kallax shelving units, the ultimate goal being a hub for my junk journals and related supplies.

Early in the process, my husband gave me an old plastic storage cabinet to repurpose for my crafting needs. I almost turned it down before learning about Krylon’s Fusion All-In-One Spray Paint.

I have carefully woven in bits and pieces of inspiration from my life. Almost everything pictured here holds a meaningful story that never fails to make me smile.

Speaking of stories, I added this one to my junk journal as well.

I am delighted seeing a portion of this dream come to life.
